Fright Fest Wiki

Six Flags, also known as Six Flags Theme Parks, is an American theme park brand originally founded in 1961 with the opening of Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, the current owner of the Six Flags brand, is a company merged from the previous iteration of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and Cedar Fair, formed in 2024. The previous iteration of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation originated as the Tierco Group in 1971, a real estate company. Tierco Group acquired Frontier City in 1984 and eventually shifted focus to the theme park industry in 1988. The company then changed its name to Premier Parks in 1994. Originally, Six Flags Theme Parks (founded as Six Flags Corporation) was founded in 1965. Six Flags went through several owners, including the Pennsylvania Railroad/Penn Central/Conrail from 1966 to 1982, Bally Manufacturing from 1982 to 1987, and most famously, Time Warner from 1993 to 1998. In 1998, Premier Parks acquired Six Flags from Time Warner, but the company continues to use Warner Bros. IPs in the parks to this day as part of a long-standing special licensing agreement. Premier Parks assumed the name of Six Flags Theme Parks before renaming itself Six Flags Entertainment Corporation following Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has Six Flags-branded properties in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, including theme parks, amusement parks, and water parks. Fright Fest (then known as Fright Nights) was created in 1986 at Six Flags AstroWorld and was annually held at the park until its closure in 2005. The event expanded to most Six Flags parks.
